Fagadaga | Directed by Yoro Mbaye
To survive, Ousseynou works for a crooked boss and sells fagadaga, a stale bread that goes unsold in the capital, to the villagers. When Nafi, his sister-in-law, sets out to reopen a traditional bakery in the village, Ousseynou finds himself with his cargo on his hands.
Yoro Mbaye is a Senegalese filmmaker who films his country's contemporary society through short fiction films and documentaries. Journée Noire, about police violence, was selected for several international festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand. Yoro took part in the Ouaga Film Lab in 2021 with Fagadaga, his first feature-length project, and won 4 prizes: Sud Ecriture, Groupe Ouest, Ateliers de l'Atlas and the ALCA Nouvelle-Aquitaine prize. He also received writing assistance from the CNC and was part of the Cité Internationale des Arts 2022 residency, with support from the Institut Français de Dakar.
Also a producer, Yoro Mbaye took part in the Ludwigsburg-Paris Workshop, co-organized by La Fémis and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
