Sofia leaves her ageing father in economically-devastated Venezuela to join her former husband Kevin in France, where she plans to build a better future. But Kevin has a new family and Sofia must break free from their control over her, and ultimately renounce her old self in order to start anew.

  • About Jorge Thielen Armand: 

 

Jorge Thielen Armand was born in Caracas, and is currently based in Rome. His work has been presented in Venice, Rotterdam, Busan, the London Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Istanbul Biennial, Filmfest München, BAFICI, the Museum of the Moving Image in New York, among others. His documentary FLOR DE LA MAR (Sarasota 2015) screened at the 39th Margaret Mead IFF and won the Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at Cine Las Americas IFF. His first feature film LA SOLEDAD (Venice 2016) won the French Critics’ Prize in Biarritz and the Audience Award in Miami IFF, followed by numerous awards at festivals worldwide and a release in UK cinemas by the ICA and MUBI. 
His latest feature film LA FORTALEZA (IFFR 2020) premiered to critical acclaim in Rotterdam, where it was nominated for the Tiger Award. It is also showing in Busan, Gijón, and FICG. 

His new project LA CERCANÍA was selected for Berlinale Script Station, San Sebastian Coproduction Forum, and MIA Coproduction Market 2020. He co-founded La Faena Films in Caracas and Toronto. He is an alumnus of Biennale College and TIFF Studio.
